There seems to be a new portable ebook reader on the market everyday. The market is hot, because every avid reader would love to have access to the hundreds of thousands of books quickly and easily. There are a few must have features you will want.
Portable Ebook Reader Display Technology
The first feature, which should be a must, is E-Ink display technology. This is the top notch screens used in the Amazon Kindle, the Sony e book reader, and other top quality ebook readers. This is the panel which is backlit, and offers the crispest, and most readable format available. The combination of the electronic ink and electronic paper gives you an appearance almost identical to reading on standard printed book.
Usability
The next feature to evaluate carefully is the controls. You want your controls to be just as easy for turning pages as reading a traditional book. When you are lost in the story, you don’t want to be stopping to think about how to move between pages. You want to keep the flow of your reading moving ahead. Even the ultra-portable Kindles give you great easy to use controls.
Memory
Ample memory is another feature you will want to check on. You are not going to want to store only one or two books, you may want to have hundreds of books and documents loaded on your portable ebook reader. Some of these ultra-light portable devices include an option to add a memory card for even greater storage.
Size
Size is another important feature to consider. You have the 9″ sized tablets which make reading extremely easy and enjoyable. These units are still amazingly light, and thin. The problem is in carrying them. You will need either a bag just for it, or carry it in large purse or briefcase. The smaller ultra-portable ebook reader, with a 6″ or smaller screen, can commonly fit in a shirt or slacks pocket. This makes them easier to carry with you anywhere. The screens are still very easy to read.
Battery Life
Don’t overlook battery life as a very critical feature. You do not want to be constantly stopping your reading to recharge the battery. A portable ebook reader with a good battery should be able to last thousands of page turns on a single charge.
While price may be important, do not buy without getting all the features you want. You are going to be saving money on every book you purchase in comparison to buying bestsellers at a local bookstore. You will quickly save enough money to pay for the difference between an inferior unit, and one loaded with all the features you really want.
If you are planning to also use your e book reader for viewing work documents, make sure it supports the formats you will need. Also, check to make sure the library of books available for your selection is large, and covers the types of books you prefer to read.
An avid reader needs to have an easy to use, easy to read portable ebook reader. Check the features carefully, and you will soon find a reader to satisfy your desires.
