Low Cost Handheld Ebook Reader – Are they worth it?

by admin on January 2, 2010

As handheld ebook readers have been on the market for some time, the kindle ebook reader is not the only alternative. Several manufacturers have created portable ebook readers hoping to lure customers with their low prices.

Undoubtedly there will be some sacrifices in terms of design, reliability, and functionality when looking at these ebook readers. The major question however is whether the discount will be worth the sacrifice and whether these devices can stand up to the more familiar devices on the market such as sony ebook reader and the amazon kindle 2.

Thanks for attributing me! I think a better solution for people who want an eBook reader is to buy an older model. That’s what I did, and I love my Kindle 1.0! An early model Sony should be pretty cheap on eBay, and won’t sacrifice on screen quality like other ebook readers do.

Another good option is an old greyscale Palm handheld. My first ebook readers were a Sony Clie PEG-T425 and a Fossil WristPDA wristwatch – both running Acrobat reader and making for great reading experience despite the small screens.
